Job Purpose

  • To provide high quality care to patients who require clinical services provided by the organisation.

  • Paramedics are responsible for the provision of care commensurate to the needs of the patient, based on their education, qualification and scope of practice. The purpose of the role is to provide care to patients in order to give the best outcome for their needs. This may require providing clinical intervention and resuscitation to prevent deterioration and promote recovery, through to in some cases facilitating a natural and dignified death.

  • Paramedics are required to respond to patients, communicate effectively, assess, and identify clinical conditions requiring treatment. They must also decide on whether to convey the patient to another care setting, refer them to another service, or discharge the patient from their care.

Paramedics work in a range of settings, typically on an Ambulance as a member of a two-person crew, on a single response vehicle, and within the Events Division.

Paramedic

As a paramedic, you respond to emergency and non-emergency situations either alone or with support. You assess the patient's condition and decide the appropriate clinical pathway and provide life-saving treatment when necessary. You are trained to use advanced techniques, equipment, and drugs to resuscitate and stabilize patients. You work shifts and may encounter challenging situations, including dealing with patients' relatives and the public, and collaborating with doctors, nurses, police, and fire departments. Staff development is supported through internal  and external CPD programs.
